One of my favorite quotes these days is from John Lennon; George is my favorite Beatle, but John always had the great lines.‘Life is what happens to you when you’re busy making other plans.’ He hit that one right on the head. Needless to say, I was unprepared when I received my cancer diagnosis. Being alone in a new city with no family within hundreds of miles, I was scared to say the least. All I could think about was what came next and how I would navigate this mess while maintaining my identity and sanity. I began chemo with the most optimism I could muster by channeling my mother’s ‘Never, never, never give up’ speech a la Winston Churchill that she used for herself and my dad -also a cancer survivor. This is also where Jenny and the amazing Phoenix Cancer Support Network stepped in. After learning about PCSN from the American Cancer Society, she quickly came to my aid; setting me up with the most professional, caring individuals who picked me up from my home, took me to my treatments, waited for me until those long appointments were finished, then made sure I was back home safe and sound. And all of this was at no cost to me, which has been a huge help during my treatment. Now, after seven months of treatment, I can happily (and humbly) report that I am in remission. It would not be possible without the amazing love and support I have received and PCSN is a big part of that. I am forever grateful. Many thanks and much love.”
