1st Annual Annie's Hike for Hope brings in over $4,000 for cancer patients!
From Phoenix Cancer Support Network
On Sunday, February 22, our community came together for a meaningful morning of movement, remembrance, and hope at Phoenix Cancer Support Network’s first annual Annie’s Hike for Hope. Held in honor of Annie—the inspiration behind PCSN—the event marked a powerful moment in our 10th anniversary year and a beautiful reflection of what can happen when a community shows up for one another.
A Morning Rooted in Purpose
From the moment participants began arriving at the trailhead, there was an unmistakable sense of connection and intention in the air. Families, survivors, caregivers, friends, healthcare professionals, and supporters gathered not only to hike, but to honor loved ones, celebrate resilience, and stand beside those currently facing cancer.
More than 120 participants joined us on the trail, with individuals and teams hiking in honor, in memory, and in support of the cancer community we serve every day.
Community in Action
One of the most inspiring moments of the day was seeing the incredible representation from across our community—including strong participation from our partners and friends at Arizona Center for Cancer Care. Their presence reflected the shared mission we carry forward together: ensuring that no one faces cancer alone.
Thanks to the generosity of our participants, donors, and sponsors, the event raised over $4,000 to directly support PCSN’s programs and services. These funds help provide essential, non-medical support to cancer patients and their families, including:
Meal assistance
Transportation to treatment appointments
Care coordination and resource navigation
Emotional support for patients and caregivers
Honoring Annie’s Legacy
Annie’s Hike for Hope is deeply personal to our organization. Annie’s strength, compassion, and unwavering love continue to guide our mission and inspire everything we do. What began as one woman’s story has grown into a network of support serving individuals and families across Arizona—and the hike served as a reminder of how powerful that legacy continues to be.
Every step taken on the trail represented something meaningful: remembrance, gratitude, courage, and commitment to the future.
Looking Ahead
As we celebrate 10 years of impact in 2026, Annie’s Hike for Hope marked the beginning of a new tradition—one we hope will continue to grow alongside the community that makes our work possible.
To everyone who participated, donated, volunteered, or supported the event in any way: thank you. Your presence made the day unforgettable and your generosity helps ensure we can continue delivering compassionate, practical support to those who need it most.
Together, we walk to remember.
Together, we walk to support.
Together, we walk forward—with hope.

PCSN receives $50,000 grant from Pink Ribbon Crusade to support Arizona breast cancer patients
From Phoenix Cancer Support Network
PHOENIX, Ariz. [January 5, 2026] Phoenix Cancer Support Network (PCSN) has received a $50,000 grant from Pink Ribbon Crusade to support breast cancer patients across Arizona. The gift, received during December, will help fund critical assistance programs for breast cancer patients facing financial hardship during cancer treatment. Pink Ribbon Crusade awarded the grant as part of its 2026 funding cycle, selecting PCSN for its commitment to serving the cancer community through direct, patient-centered support. As a nonprofit organization, PCSN provides essential resources to help ease the non-medical burdens that often accompany a cancer diagnosis. “We are incredibly grateful to Pink Ribbon Crusade for recognizing the impact of our work and for their generous support,” said Jenny Martin, founder of Phoenix Cancer Support Network. “This grant will allow us to continue helping breast cancer patients and their families meet basic needs during one of the most challenging times of their lives.” The grant will be used to assist breast cancer patients with transportation to and from medical appointments, groceries, utility bills, and other daily living expenses. These services help ensure patients to focus on their treatment and recovery without the added stress of financial instability. About Phoenix Cancer Support Network
Founded in 2016, Phoenix Cancer Support Network is a non-profit organization lead by a group of physicians, healthcare administrators and other professionals whose passion for cancer care has come from a common bond. Each of our founding members has been personally touched by cancer. Through each unique journey, we have learned that a cancer diagnosis is overwhelming, confronting the patient with an information overload which can be difficult to manage and navigate. Phoenix Cancer Support Network endeavors to empower clients throughout their cancer journey by providing support, guidance, and direction while promoting and protecting the unique needs, lifestyle and abilities of each patient and their caregivers. Supporting Our Community: Lending a Hand
From Phoenix Cancer Support Network
At Phoenix Cancer Support Network (PCSN), our mission extends beyond providing medical guidance and emotional support—we believe in building a strong, caring community where no one faces their cancer journey alone.
This past week, PCSN Executive Director Sam Martin and his son Elliott had the opportunity to assist one of our incredible clients, Mr. Kasun, with some much-needed home maintenance. After the holiday season, Mr. Kasun needed help removing lights from his home and garage, and we were honored to step in.
In addition to taking down the decorations, we also replaced an outdoor water valve on his garden spicket to ensure his yard remains well-maintained. Small tasks like these can often become overwhelming during treatment, and our goal is to ease the burden so our clients can focus on their health and well-being.
It’s moments like these that remind us of the power of community and the impact of small acts of kindness. Every effort, no matter how big or small, helps our clients feel supported and cared for.
A heartfelt thank you to our volunteers, donors, and supporters who make these efforts possible. Together, we are making a difference—one act of service at a time.
If you’d like to get involved with Phoenix Cancer Support Network, whether through volunteering, donations, or community outreach, please contact us at info@pcsnetwork.org.

How to Reduce Your Risk of Cervical Cancer
From Arizona Center for Cancer Care
Lowering your risk for cervical cancer is easy with just a few simple steps. Learn about what you can do to prevent cervical cancer and its main risk factor, human papillomavirus (HPV).
Cervical cancer often develops from precancerous changes on the cervix, which are commonly linked to human papillomavirus (HPV), a virus spread through sexual contact. Over 11,000 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed in the United States every year. Fortunately, with preventive measures like vaccines and screenings, you can significantly reduce your risk. At Arizona Center for Cancer Care, we provide comprehensive expertise in treating cervical cancer and other conditions across multiple locations, including Phoenix, Scottsdale, Tempe, Chandler, and more. Our expert oncologists are here to educate you about cervical cancer, its treatments, and, most importantly, the steps you can take to lower your risk. Stay safe from HPV HPV, a viral infection, is the number-one risk factor for cervical cancer. There are over 150 types of HPV, some of which are high-risk types that can lead to cancer. HPV spreads through skin-to-skin contact, including all types of sexual activity. While there is no cure for HPV infections, the HPV vaccine is a highly effective preventive measure. This FDA-approved vaccine is recommended by the CDC and other health organizations. The HPV vaccine is most effective when administered before exposure to the virus and involves a series of shots, which you can receive as early as age 9. It's recommended for individuals up to age 26, but adults up to age 45 may also benefit from vaccination, even though the effectiveness may vary. Using condoms during sexual activity can also reduce your risk of HPV infection. However, neither condoms nor the HPV vaccine are 100% effective, making routine screenings essential. Get your screenings Thanks to cervical cancer screenings, the rates of cervical cancer have dropped significantly over the decades. Two primary screening tests can help detect changes in your cervix that might lead to cervical cancer: Pap smear A Pap smear detects abnormal cells on the cervix that could develop into cancer. Women should have a Pap smear every three years starting at age 21. From ages 30 to 65, you have options for screening:
Continue Pap smears every three years
Combine a Pap smear and HPV test every five years
Opt for HPV screening alone every five years
After age 65, screenings may no longer be necessary if you've never had abnormal cervical cells.
HPV Testing This test looks for the specific types of HPV that can cause cervical cell changes leading to cancer. Combining HPV testing with a Pap smear offers a comprehensive approach to detecting potential issues. Stop Smoking to Prevent Cervical Cancer Smoking is a major risk factor for many cancers, including cervical cancer. Women who smoke are twice as likely as nonsmokers to develop cervical cancer. Smoking weakens your immune system, increases your risk of HPV infection, and introduces harmful toxins that can cause DNA damage in cervical cells, leading to abnormal changes and cancer. If you smoke, consider quitting to protect your health. Resources like nicotine replacement therapies, counseling, and support groups can help you on your journey to becoming smoke-free.
