Meet Jenny Martin of Phoenix Cancer Support Network in Scottsdale
Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenny Martin.
Jenny, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
After my younger sister, Annie lost her battle to cancer at the age of 24, I became particularly passionate about cancer treatment and patient care. I focused my career in the oncology space and spent several years at different hospitals as an administrator. I learned that while there are some excellent resources for cancer patients, there are still some pretty wide gaps in services. I asked a group of like-minded individuals also determined to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients, to be a part of the Phoenix Cancer Support Network. We are close to three years old and have proudly served close to 170 clients in our community.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not a smooth road. Our number one constant is that we always need donors. There is no shortage of cancer diagnoses. We have a working board made up of all volunteers to ensure all the money goes to clients. At least once a week I lose sleep over the bank account. Usually the next day, there will be a check in the mailbox or an email saying a sponsor signed on for an event. I know my sister, Annie is watching over us.
Please tell us about your organization.
